With nine years of experience in the refrigeration industry, I bring a comprehensive background as a refrigeration engineer. My career has included roles as a design engineer, consultant, and senior engineer—giving me hands-on experience with rack manufacturers, installers, service providers, and now, as an end-user. This diverse journey has given me a holistic understanding of the refrigeration sector and the broad range of Cool Skills it requires.
Currently, I serve as the Senior Refrigeration Engineer at Woolworths Group, where I manage specifications for refrigeration systems and coolrooms. My responsibilities include overseeing refrigeration racks, gas coolers, condensers, evaporators, and all installation components essential for the effective operation of supermarket refrigeration systems.
A key part of my role is promoting innovation within the business. I lead initiatives focused on the transition to natural refrigerants, improvements in energy efficiency, and addressing challenges such as extreme climates and water resource management—all of which rely on a deep and evolving set of Cool Skills.
My technical expertise includes the design of CO₂ refrigeration systems capable of delivering both space heating and cooling. This requires careful selection of compressors and auxiliary components, pipe sizing, and gas cooler configuration to optimise performance.
I have also undertaken theoretical modelling to evaluate Total Cost of Ownership, using energy consumption data informed by meteorological conditions and maintenance projections. This ensures systems are optimised for year-round performance, not just a specific design point.
In addition, I’ve been involved in monitoring and performance verification—conducting site surveys to confirm compliance with design specifications and analysing controller data to assess real-world equipment performance, helping extend operational life and reliability.
I’ve also developed thermodynamic simulation tools to model refrigeration rack systems from first principles, including booster systems, heat pumps, and liquid recirculation components—applying some of the most advanced Cool Skills in system analysis and optimisation.
I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and have recently completed my AIRAH Professional Engineering Accreditation, further strengthening the skills and knowledge I bring to the evolving future of our industry.
