SUMMARY:Very cool: celebrate World Refrigeration Day and 170 years since James Harrison’s commercial refrigeration invention
DESCRIPTION:By celebrating James Harrison’s achievements on World Refrigeration Day\, 26 June\, local organisations seek to restore wider understanding of his work and contributions to society. Modern refrigeration still relies on the processes that he designed\, engineered and patented 170 years ago in what Europeans considered to be the far-flung colonial backwater of Geelong. It is now Australia’s only UNESCO City of Design. The designation was awarded in 2017 in part because of Harrison’s commercial ice-making invention and its outstanding contribution to humanity’s health and well being.\nGRBNT and the Geelong Showgrounds Museum\, assisted by the Royal Geelong Agricultural and Pastoral Society (RGAPS)\, are re-establishing knowledge of how Harrison’s commercial ice-making invention has aided advances in science\, medicine\, and food manufacture\, preservation and transport. Climate control has extended humanity’s range of habitation\, even into space. \n– Open Days will be held on June 26 and 29 at the Geelong Showgrounds Museum 10 am – 4 pm; tickets through Trybooking at https://www.trybooking.com/CQZTL.\nThe Museum has a collection of early domestic refrigerators (it took other inventors 70 years to scale Harrison’s process down to domestic size)\, panels showing Harrison’s life and times\, and farming memorabilia.\n– An evening event will be held on World Refrigeration Day for invited industry representatives and supporters.\n– There will be a public event at 11 am on 27 June at the Eastern Cemetery\, Ormond Rd\, East Geelong to mark refurbishment of Harrison’s grave by his descendants. \nAt all events\, engineer Warwick Brice will demonstrate how ice was made in 1857 with his 1:10 working model of the machine (pictured) that Harrison perfected in London. It made 3 tons of ice a day\, and with it Harrison launched Australia’s first ice works in North Geelong in 1859.

SUMMARY:World Refrigeration Day events in Australia
DESCRIPTION:Woolworths to host a national plantroom open day on the “coolest day of the year”. \nThe Refrigeration & Air Conditioning (RAC) sector is accountable for almost 25% of Australia’s entire national electricity production and around 12% of Australia’s greenhouse gas emissions. RAC enables people to live\, travel and work comfortably. Refrigeration in particular boosts economic productivity\, underpins countless industrial processes\, reduces food waste\, enables organ transplants and saves lives. \nBut the RAC industry’s transition towards more sustainable\, lower emissions and higher efficiency technologies demands a higher level of skill of the engineers and field technicians who work in this space. This at a time when kids are less likely to choose a trade as their vocation. Like many other trades\, the refrigeration industry is facing a dilemma. \nWorld Refrigeration Day (WRD) is an international awareness campaign endorsed by the UN Environment Program (UNEP) to raise the profile of the refrigeration\, air-conditioning and heat-pump sector. WRD aims to focus attention on the significant role that the industry plays in modern life and society. It draws attention to engineering and science that is all around us every day. \nOn WRD this year (June 26th) Woolies will be throwing open the plantroom doors to the public to showcase the latest technology in commercial refrigeration. If you know someone who may just be interested in picking up a trade – or simply interested to learn more \n\n\n\nSelect preferred session for attendance:  \n## – sessions reserved for AIRAH members only\n** – sessions reserved for current refrigeration industry practitioners only\n* \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n##VIC – Woolworths Burwood Brickworks (12:00pm-1:30pm)\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nVIC – Woolworths Burwood Brickworks (2:00pm-3:30pm)\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nVIC – Woolworths Burwood Brickworks (4:00pm-5:30pm)\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nVIC – Woolworths Bendigo Market Square (4:00pm-5:30pm)\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNSW – Woolworths Eastern Creek (9:00am-10:30am)\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNSW – Woolworths Eastern Creek (11:00am-12:30pm)\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n**NSW – Woolworths Eastern Creek (2:00pm-3:30pm)\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNSW – Woolworths Prestons (9:00am-10:30am)\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNSW – Woolworths Prestons (11:00am-12:30pm)\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n**NSW – Woolworths Prestons (2:00pm-3:30pm)\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nQLD – Woolworths Rochedale CFC (9:00am-10:30am)\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nQLD – Woolworths Rochedale CFC (11:00am-12:30pm)\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n**QLD – Woolworths Rochedale CFC (2:00pm-3:30pm)\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSA – Woolworths Fulham Gardens (1:00pm – 2:30pm)\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSA – Woolworths Fulham Gardens (4:00pm – 5:30pm)\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWA – Woolworths Highgate (1:00pm-2:30pm)\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWA – Woolworths Highgate (2:30pm-4:00pm)\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Why does the World need a Refrigeration Day?
DESCRIPTION:We need cooling solutions to deliver on the Sustainable Development Goals\, make indoor environments comfortable\, drive our economies\, and keeping food and medicines safe. But cooling is energy intensive\, currently accounting for 15% of global energy consumption. According to the IEA\, energy demand for space cooling alone will more than triple by 2050 – consuming as much electricity as all of China and India today. \nWe have an opportunity in the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol\, which 197 countries have signed. With the implementation of the Amendment\, we can cut down and avoid up to 0.4°C of global warming this century. By simultaneously accelerating the transition to clean and energy efficient cooling\, we can potentially double the climate benefits. This means we can safely increase access to cooling for those who need it most\, without undermining the energy transition or efforts to curb greenhouse gas emissions and save trillions globally in avoided energy infrastructure. \n Steve Gill\, Why do we need a refrigeration day?\n Lily Riahi\, Why does the Cool sector need to work together?\n Professor Toby Peters will talk about cooling needs & the impact on the sustainable development goals\n C Subramaniam (ISHRAE) will talk about why more than 30\,000 HVAC professionals are celebrating the Day – how it intends to do to spread the good word on refrigeration\n Rajan Rawal will talk about the importance of sustainable cooling from the perspective of human health & well being\n Pawanexh Kohli will talk about the importance of refrigeration for the world to achieve sustainable agriculture – why the Day ought to be welcomed by the farming community\n Torben Funder-Kristensen\, how to achieve sustainable cooling – safe\, environmentally friendly and affordable cooling. \nQ&ALess
