DESCRIPTION:As part of the WRD21 celebrations\, the National Ozone Unit of Grenada has organised a webinar to highlight Careers in Cooling in the Caribbean.\nDate: Thursday June 24\, 2021\nTime: 9:00 a.m. AST\nWhere: Zoom\nThe webinar is intended to increase awareness of career opportunities in HVAC and to stimulate much more interest among the youth\, particularly females to get involved in the industry. There would also be a special feature on Grenadian females involved in RAC. The feature presentation would be delivered by President of the Caribbean ASHRAE Chapter\, Mr. Dev Maharaj. Other presentations would be delivered by the National Ozone Officer of Grenada and a representative of the Grenada Refrigeration\, AirConditioning and Ventilating Association (GRAVA).\nCooling Champions:  A Series Featuring Women in the Refrigeration and Air-conditioning Sector in Grenada. \nSeries Launch Date:    Thursday June 24th\, 2021 \nCooling Champions is Part II of an initiative of the National Ozone Unit (NOU)\, Grenada to further recognize and appreciate women that are involved in the refrigeration and air-conditioning sector in Grenada. \nPart 1 of this initiative started three years ago in 2018 under the tagline “Keep Cool and #watchmework” where seventeen women involved in all aspects of RAC in Grenada were presented with special recognition awards – ten (10) of whom were active technicians in the field. \nThe series “#CoolingChampions” would be launched on June 24th\, 2021\, as part of the NOU’s activities to celebrate World Refrigeration Day 2021\, #WREFD21. According to National Ozone Officer\, Mr. Leslie Smith\, “the series is essentially a “Cool Chat” with women in the RAC sector and would feature a profile of them and highlights of their work in the field – their stories\, experiences\, challenges and successes”. This full-day event will help celebrate the second-annual World Refrigeration Day and encourage industry organisations\, professionals and practitioners to come together to discuss products\, services\, and the future of the HVAC&R industry. \nIn early March – in response to the escalating COVID-19 situation – AIRAH suspended its in-person events. This included our face-to-face training sessions\, divisional seminars\, and Industry Nights. \nWe continue to monitor the situation and thank you for your support and understanding. SUMMARY:Why does the World need a Refrigeration Day?
DESCRIPTION:We need cooling solutions to deliver on the Sustainable Development Goals\, make indoor environments comfortable\, drive our economies\, and keeping food and medicines safe. But cooling is energy intensive\, currently accounting for 15% of global energy consumption. According to the IEA\, energy demand for space cooling alone will more than triple by 2050 – consuming as much electricity as all of China and India today. \nWe have an opportunity in the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol\, which 197 countries have signed. With the implementation of the Amendment\, we can cut down and avoid up to 0.4°C of global warming this century. By simultaneously accelerating the transition to clean and energy efficient cooling\, we can potentially double the climate benefits.
